Rhinoplasty Surgery: Are You A Candidate?

Anyone who wishes to improve the look of their nose can become a candidate for nose surgery. If you suffer from nose deviation which is causing you physiological problems and distress, nasal congestion, sinus headaches or depression, then a rhinoplasty is a suitable choice for you. There are a variety of aesthetic issues a rhinoplasty aims to resolve, which include:

  • Relatively large nose
  • Crooked nose
  • Hooked or bumpy nose

Nose surgery is not for everybody. If you have high risks associated with surgery or have had frequent or recent nose surgery, you may be unsuitable for a rhinoplasty. There are; however, alternatives to nose surgery such as a facial filler like JUVÉDERM®, which may also correct some aesthetic issues with the nose.

Your Rhinoplasty Surgery

A typical rhinoplasty takes between 1-2 hours in an outpatient setting. Depending on the complexity of your specific surgery ,general anaesthetic or local anaesthetic and sedation. There are many different ways to approach a rhinoplasty operation, based on the needs of the patient.

Results and Aftercare for Rhinoplasty Surgery

The recovery period after a rhinoplasty operation takes between 1-2 weeks. However, patients should avoid strenuous activity for at least a week after recovery, and refrain from any activities that may injure their noses for six weeks. The new shape of your nose should become evident in the weeks following the surgery.

Temporary side effects if rhinoplasty surgery include swelling, bruising, headaches as well as some bleeding and stiffness. We may prescribe pain medication to ease some of these symptoms. As with all surgeries, there is a risk of infection, as well as the possibility of an unsatisfactory outcome that may require further surgical correction.
