Procedure in Cosmetic Plastic Surgery

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

If you are suffering from loose, sagging skin around your eyelids then eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, may be suitable for you. Loose skin around the eyes can really highlight aging, and make you look tired even after a good night's sleep.

Eyelid Surgery: Are You A Candidate?

Most patients who opt for eyelid surgery are over the age of 35, and wish to restore a more youthful appearance to the eye area. The best candidates for eyelid surgery are healthy, non-smokers, who do not suffer from thyroid diseases. It is best to check in with your ophthalmologist before undergoing any eyelid rejuvenation procedure, as patients with some eye disorders may not be good candidates for eyelid surgery.

Your Blepharoplasty

Eyelid surgery can be completed using either sedation or general anesthesia, and depending on your cosmetic concerns, will be placed along the upper eyelid crease or inside the lower eyelid. Excess skin is removed to correct eyelid hooding and drooping, and fat in the lower eyelid area may be repositioned to correct eye bags and wrinkles.

If you are seeking total eyelid rejuvenation, the procedure usually 1-2 hours to complete. Other, less complicated eyelid operations can be completed in less than an hour. If you are looking to compliment your eyelid surgery, a brow lift can further correct upper eyelid sagging and lift the eyebrows.

Results and Aftercare for Eyelid Surgery

The typical recovery period for an eyelid procedure is 5-7 days, during which your stitches will be removed. Our team will advise you when it is safe to resume wearing contacts (usually 1-2 weeks) and using makeup in the eye area (usually within 7 days).

Expect some bruising and swelling after the operation, but pain should be minimal, and all temporary side effects should be gone within 1-2 weeks. By 2-3 weeks patients can typically resume exercising and within 1-2 months, the final eyelid surgery results should start to become visible.
